| HOW THE CUP MATCHES WORK... The Fantasy Presidents Cup Competition is the brain child of the legendary Aussie linkster Kevin "Smails" Nolan. After reaching an agreement with Commissioner John "Buster" Hyman of the world renowned Payne Stewart Memorial Fantasy Golf League to establish the now famous Australian Fantasy Golf League, the cunning Smails approached Buster with the idea. After much thought and many legalities, the competition was set. In the inaugural year, 8 matches and 1 Foursome tie-breaker match were played over the course of 25 weeks. This was a suitable solution to the uneven amount of teams, with USA having 10, and the Aussies only 8. Now each side brings 10 "teams" to the match, and the competition takes place during the entire 30 week Fantasy season. The first 15 weeks are played as the "1st Round", or 1st set of matches. The Captain of the losing team assigns the matches for the next round. Each weekly PGA Tour event is treated as 1 hole played, with the total weekly score for each team going against their opponent's total weekly score. Scoring is standard Match Play throughout the competition. Each match is worth 1 point, with ties awarding 1/2 point to each side. The first round will be worth 10 total points. After the first round is complete, the Captain of the team that is losing will assign the matches for the "2nd round", or the last 15 weeks of the Fantasy season. In case of a tie score at this point, the Captain who assigned the previous matches will again assign the matches. A total of 10 points are available in this second round, making the total available points for the competition 20. The team that currently holds the cherished "Cup" will need only 10 total points to retain the Cup, while the other team will need a minimum of 10 1/2 points to win the Cup. While the Cup competition is played primarily for fun and pride, the losing team is required to send a "suitable prize" to the winners. We felt this was a great way to get to know each other better, show good sportsmanship, and have some great laughs!
